Some information about me:

I came to yoga in search of relaxation about 5 years ago. As an older
mother of 2 young and active boys and with the primary responsibility
of caring for these boys, I needed a release. A former runner (I
am the first-ever American woman to complete the Mt. Everest Marathon
in Nepal.), injuries and scar tissue prevent me from running and
lifting weights. Nonetheless, I like to be active. I am also a
spiritual woman and find yoga to be a wonderful way to find quiet time
within myself and with God, to find joy in myself and in the world
around me.

I taught for over 20 years in the academic world before becoming a
mom--adults and children (ages 3 to 93). I taught and designed
programs in French, Italian, English as a Second Language,
Linguistics, Methods of Teaching...I am a teacher in my heart.
Degreed to the Masters level in Communication and in LInguistics, I
enjoy a private joke of the M.A., M.A. after my name as being my
favorite title as it spells mama! During the relaxation phase of my
first-ever yoga class, I felt a resonance within and recognized that I
wanted to share this great feeling with as many people as I could.

Having looked into several instructor training programs, I pursued
certification with YogaFit because I liked their philosophy of making
yoga accessible to all bodies. I liked their approach of
meeting Americans where we are, demystifying yoga in a way that makes
it possible to engage people in their physical bodies so that when
they're ready, the spiritual follows. YogaFit modifies some of the
traditional poses according to the needs of the Western body unused to
the movements that can create or worsen problems for the back, knees,
and neck. And, having taught people how to approach teaching their
subject, I especially appreciated YogaFit's manner of teaching
teachers appropriate ways to teach yoga, including language to use and
manners in which to speak. I was hooked.

I am Level 4-certified (the highest level) and am registered with the Yoga Alliance, a
self-appointed board designed to regulate the quality of yoga
teachers. I have studied with Seane Corn, Paul Grilley, Lilias Folan, and Jodi Feinstein, as well
as Caroline Myss and Dr. Judith Orloff. My personal practice has
included Astanga, Vinyasa, and Restorative Yoga. In the past 2
months, I have re-committed myself to a daily practice and
found greater depth in my practice, sweeter calm, and greater
energy--all of which enhances my teaching relationship with my
students as well as my relationships with my family and friends!

My philosophy and approaches:

Movement is the song and poetry of the body. When we trust the wisdom
of the body to lead, we allow ourselves spontaneous healing and
strengthening. We enjoy reduced stress and deeper rest. We find our
bliss, our joy. Our health requires an appropriate balance of
activity and rest, movement and stillness in our life. The yoga that
I teach and practice incorporates that balance of movement and rest.
Our asanas flow from one to the next, our rest coming as we need.
Yoga is not about perfect poses for me. Rather, yoga is defined by
the work that we do. Yoga is the journey. We work toward balance in
the body and among the body, mind, and spirit. I feel honored to be
on the journey with my students.

It is ever important that we honor, respect and work with the body
that we have today. I am here to help you find, respect, and work
with your limits so that we may grow beyond them.

Namaste...a word that the peoples of the Himalayas use to say hello
and good-bye. It means, "The light in me honors the light in
you...that which is unique about me honors that which is unique about
you."
